The brand-new feature in the iPhone X that has never existed on any other iPhone is infrared face scanning.

The technology, called Face ID, uses an infrared camera system on the front of the phone to scan the contours and shape of a person’s head to unlock the phone and authorize mobile payments. The technology works by spraying an object with infrared dots to gather information about the depth of an object based on the size and the contortion of the dots. The imaging system can then stitch the patterns into a detailed 3-D image of your face to determine if you are indeed the owner of your smartphone before unlocking it.

For Apple, Face ID has been years in the making. In 2013, the iPhone maker acquired PrimeSense, a company that developed sensors for Microsoft’s Kinect, a camera system that scanned people’s bodies so people could play Xbox games using body movements.

Face ID is a direct response to the face-recognition feature in smartphones offered by Samsung, Apple’s fiercest rival. Experts have criticized Samsung’s face-recognition feature, which could be tricked by holding a photo of the smartphone owner’s face in front of the camera.

The iPhone X is the first redesigned iPhone in three years, and Apple says it is the blueprint for “the future of the smartphone.” Many of the design details had leaked to the press before today’s unveiling — we’d heard that it would have a new display that stretched across much more of the phone’s front, and that it would do away with the trademark home button.

Much of that turned out to be true. The iPhone X is essentially the same size and overall shape as the iPhone 7, but because the screen occupies all of the front of the phone, it is far larger than that of older models. The screen uses a technology new for Apple (which many competitors already use), called OLED. It produces better image quality than Apple’s older LCD screens.

What we didn’t quite know was how Apple would integrate the new button-free design with the operating system — how would you navigate the phone without a physical button?

It’s quite simple: You swipe. To go home, swipe up from the bottom of the screen. To see other apps, swipe up from the bottom and pause — now you see the multitasking pane. And to unlock your phone, you look at it. The iPhone X eliminates Apple’s Touch ID, and replaces it with a facial-recognition system that Apple calls Face ID.

Whether people will adjust to the button-free system remains to be seen. For better or worse, Apple has used essentially the same interface for the iPhone for the last decade. Swiping is easy, but it isn’t as easy as hitting a button, and it may throw some people off at first. The learning curve will be interesting to watch.

Do you enjoy driving car? If the answer is yes, then enjoy all you can while driving because once the robot driving car or self-driving vehicle is out for sale, your fun won’t stay for very long. Robot cars would be another milestone in human history.

The rise of robot cars has begun with quite swiftness. In fact, virtually each and every major car developer has designed an autonomous vehicle (AV) and Google has these robot cars running for a long time now. However, the state laws demand a human driver too, who should be present behind the wheels in case of an emergency. Google has maintained a neat to perfect safety record with just one accident recorded when a human driver was operating the car.

Various surveys show that most drivers don’t trust the new robot car technology, but engineers and analysts say that autonomous vehicles are in fact very safe.

As per analysts, computers have no emotions and unlike humans, they don’t get distracted too. They also state that these robot cars are way more reliable than a human driver.

The development of robot cars is happening on multiple fronts. Various universities are conducting research programs and many top-notch manufacturers, including Nissan, GM, Volvo, and also BMW have already made an announcement of their plans of marketing robot cars by the year 2020. The IEEE (Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) has estimated that by the year 2040, nearly 75% of the vehicles will be self-driving models.

Analysts have also predicted that adoption of these self-driving robotic cars would follow a pattern, which will be very much like personal computers with a steady growth of public acceptance as the benefits of the technology are demonstrated.

The eradication of the human drivers will eventually have an economic and far-going social implication. The whole of the industry involving car and truck driving might be wiped out. The AVs would gradually reduce crashes too as most accidents are a result of human error. This would drastically affect the auto insurance and body repair too.

Autonomous vehicles will have a great impact on the congestion too in a good way as they can work at optimum spacing, speed, and in turn maximize the traffic flow. They can also be operated with a networked control system, which will optimize the flow of traffic by commanding the cars to take optimum routes and also by letting every car know what the other vehicle is doing.

All these benefits and positive impacts will make the robot cars an inevitable need in today’s world.

Happiness cannot be bought – it is something that comes from within. If you are in pursuit and purchase of newest electronic gadgets just because they will bring you lasting happiness then you are wrong. Buying a new item does bring happiness, but that is temporary in nature and hardly lasts longer than few days.

In the words of Adyashanti, a spiritual leader, “When we make a purchase and/or get what we want, we are temporarily happy and fulfilled. But the reason for happiness is not because we got what we wanted, but because for a brief period of time, we stopped wanting, and thus we experience peace and happiness.”

Here are four reasons why buying the newest electronic gadgets does not give us permanent happiness.

fantastic-electronic-gadgets1

1. The day you buy something, the very next day there is a new model with better features and most of the time you keep wondering that your timing was not right. The reality is that it is not about timing, but about the pace with which technology keeps changing. Any latest electronic gadget bought today gets obsolete in a short span of time always leaving you wanting for a new one.

2. Normally, when we buy a gadget we think that it will make life easier for us, but most of the time it adds worry to our lives in a different manner. It does ease up some of our tasks, but then we spend our time and energy worrying about its maintenance and upkeep. The gadget needs to be cleaned and organised, and such distractions steal away the sense of happiness.

3. Most people buy expensive gadgets just to impress their peers and show off in their social circles. If they find that people are not impressed then their happiness just evaporates. Also, if someone else in their circles of influence gets a better one then the whole purpose of buying gets lost. And this someone always exists.

4. Shopping can never lead to contentment, which is an inbuilt trait. The more you shop, the more is available for shopping as it is a never-ending cycle.

If you are buying the gadget because you genuinely need it then you will feel happy for a while. But, if you are the one who is searching for happiness in possessions or buying to satisfy your ego or to show off then you are on the wrong path. If happiness could be found in buying stuff, then the rich would never be unhappy.

Having said a joyful goodbye to year 2016 that was eventful, let’s see what 2017 has in store for us in terms of technology trends! It’s the breakthroughs from several years ago that has given us the real products and services we are enjoying today! Read on to find out what technology trends we can expect to see this year.

  • The latest trend is the widescreen, wall-mounted television that adorns your fireplace, especially the ones that come loaded with features. Who would have thought that your television needs to be thin!

  • If you thought electric cars won’t work then think again! Cars like Tesla are something that you need to watch out and there are many more such cleaner and greener cars that are being rolled out into the market. A lot of consumers are willing to opt for an electrically powered car and this market is still untapped and not as saturated as the conventional market. With a lot of big carmakers signalling their foray into this category, 2017 is definitely going to be eventful for most car enthusiasts!

  • We see more innovations coming on the way in terms of video communication interfaces like skype or Facetime and more innovation with the providers that exist in this field. Google’s glasses have already upped the ante in a real sense and got us much closer to experiencing the augmented reality devices per say! This would open up a lot many innovations to come our way in 2017. It is an eager wait.

  • Handheld devices like the Tablet devices have revolutionised the way people operate and explore the internet. From having a mounted display on the wall with programed recipes to choose from for assisted cooking, technology has moved to multi-purpose devices like the tablet device that is not only convenient but also handheld.

  • We have more intelligent internet applications that not only help us track consumer behaviour, but also the patterns involved in how we as people interact with other people. And going global with such things with the internet just makes this process exciting and immensely active for most companies. As they say in the real clichéd sense, the internet of things would now continue to be even more eventful in the year 2017!

  • What we saw with computers that follow voice orders in 2016 will now progress to even better applications perhaps. 2017 will be a year, which will have applications and innovations that circle around this theme.

  • Wireless video gaming will see some more innovations as we enter into 2017 and this is something that will revolutionise the gaming industry. What needs to be seen is exactly how this will progress.

  • With drones finding their utility in more than military and news industries and moving on to something like revolutionising logistics, we await some more new discovery that might just revolutionise the way people do business. Military applications have always been extremely useful as well as successful in civil areas. We don’t need to emphasise how internet started and where we stand with it as on today!

  • Nike with its trainers that are self-lacing has not been able to deliver the big hit that it was supposed to, but its MAG shoes is something that the company claims has been innovating and is hoping to release sometime in the year 2017! We hope that the company gets the big hit that it aims for!

  • As mobile computing and cloud computing get closer and closer, centrally synchronized apps that can be sent to any gadget will continue to develop. Applications that can use storage and intelligence in an effective way will experience reduced costs of bandwidth. So, you can expect to soon use apps simultaneously on several devices.

These technology trends are expected to reshape the way in which the world functions with their significant impact. All these technologies have great potential to expand in the coming few years, though there are tons more that would be worth watching. There are several more that are still inching ahead with the promise of bigger challenges this year and beyond.

A new range of iPhones would be out for sale by October 2017 after an unveiling that is scheduled in September. This was according to a report that came out on Monday. Rumors earlier claimed that the company would struggle to meet their usual launch timeframe in fall of every year for their latest OLED iPhone as it is going to debut with two more models of LCD screen type. Some other sources claimed that the tenth anniversary of iPhone also faces a delay due to the yield rate issues.

Mac Otakara, a Japanese website suggested earlier this year that iPhone 8 would launch a little later than the LCD models of the company. Ming-Chi Kuo’s analyst, KGI Securities believes that the company is going to launch the OLED iPhone in the month of September only, but a lot of supply shortages would be faced by the device till November 2017. Similar rumors of delayed production have been said by many media outlets and analysts in the recent months.

On Monday, an Economic Daily News claimed that there is going to be no delay for the next generation iPhones of the company. They signaled the usual production of iPhone parts ramp up starting next month.

Both Kinsus and Zhen Ding have managed to improve the rate of yield of their SLP products, which would allow a lot of materials for the iPhone in June. Assemblers of iPhone, Pegatron, Winston and Foxconn said that they would accelerate training and recruitment of new Chinese workers in preparation for the new iPhone’s mass production.

The company has a major redesign in plan for their new flagship phone. They are going to be including a new glass body and OLED display that is going to be edge to edge with an integrated Touch ID option. The iPhone is going to be sold alongside standard 5.5 and 4.7 inch screen as well.
